What’s the real story of Manchester?

Manchester is one of the oldest towns in Iowa and was originally founded during the 1850’s.   The town has a rich history as does Delaware county. The county courthouse was built in 1894 and is situated right in the heart of downtown Manchester right near the historic Castle movie theater and the Chuong Garden Chinese restaurant.  The red brick courthouse is known for the tall steeple of its clock tower.  My sister-in-law actually lives in Manchester and she will likely be upset when I mention that she once mistook the lit-up clock on the courthouse clock tower for a full moon back when she was in her teenage years.  Hey, it was dark that night.  That’s just a prime example of good kids out cruising the streets of Manchester in their used cars and trucks.

Of course there is also that infamous Maquoketa River that runs through the heart of Manchester and it seems during recent summers, the river has risen above its banks to wreak havoc on the inhabitants of Manchester and Delaware County at least once a year.  Of course Runde Auto Group’s used car lot is situated on the upper west side of Manchester right across the road from the local Walmart therefore Runde’s lot always remains unaffected by the activity of the river.
