Eye-popping color and fresh takes on familiar subjects will be the focus of the newest exhibition at the Dubuque Museum of Art. The Dubuque Museum of Art’s spring exhibition, “Shiny, Sticky, Smooth: Pop Art and the Senses,” includes more than 70 pieces made by Pop Artists of the 1960s and ’70s. Among those are artworks by household names like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. Pop Art is a multi-sensory experience that combines bold colors with common subjects. Using carefully chosen materials, textures, and compositions, pop art is eye-catching, but also appeals to sound, taste, touch, and smell. The fifth annual Julien Dubuque International Film Festival is right around the corner and Runde Auto Group is proud to be a title sponsor! Only 115 shorts, features, and documentaries were selected to be shown at this year’s festival, April 21-24 in downtown Dubuque. They were chosen out of more than 625 submissions in a selection process that spanned several months. “Each film was watched at least 10 times by members of our selection committee,” said Susan Gorrell, executive director of the festival. “The quality of this year’s entries impressed us all and we are thrilled to show the Official Selections at this year’s festival.” The films represent more than 60 countries.

Reflections in the Park, the annual lights festival that raises money for Hillcrest Family Services, is celebrating its 20th year! Open 5-10 p.m. daily through Jan. 3 at Louis Murphy Park in Dubuque, this year’s event features about 65 displays. Runde Auto Group is a proud sponsor of Rudolph riding in a Corvette! The show, called Surroundings, will feature Nick’s abstract oil paintings, as well as work by Amy Fuller and sculptures by guest artist Gary Carstens. “I’m excited to show there because I’ve only exhibited in smaller venues before,” Nick said. The opening reception will be 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14 at Gallery C, in the Schmid Innovation Center, 900 Jackson St., Suite 113, in Dubuque. It will continue through Jan. 11. Today was a great day at the 14th Annual Sales Expo, hosted by J&R Rental Supply Inc. held at the Silver Eagle Event Center in East Dubuque IL. The place was packed with hard working people from manufacturing and agricultural professions. We met lots of great people at this year’s J&R Supply Sales Expo.  We got a good opportunity to explain our commercial line of vehicles and we also saw some great products from other vendors. Kyle Larson and Mark Fleege, our commercial vehicle specialists, from our Runde Chevrolet in East Dubuque, IL were at the Runde table fielding questions and giving away cozies, mugs, mouse pads and more. If you weren’t able to check out the latest edition of Her magazine in Dubuque’s Telegraph Herald this past Sunday, then you may have missed that Runde’s was voted as their readers’ favorite Auto Dealer. The Dubuque Food Pantry Sister Lynn Wagner – manager of the Dubuque Food Pantry The Dubuque Food Pantry was founded in 1987 and is located at 1598 Jackson Street. The pantry does several things for the community including giving deserving citizens in the Tri-States close to 500 Christmas Baskets a year. The Pantry offers; food, hygiene products, baby items, cleaning supplies and other necessities to those who are down on their luck in the area. Donations are always welcome at the pantry, be it one of the items aforementioned or cash, the pantry can put it to good use to help out people who truly need it.

It was the one field trip that the 4th and 5th graders were jealous of the 6th graders for – Camp Courageous in Cascade Iowa. It was singularly, the best, field trip and with good reason, everything they had you do at the camp was fun and interesting. Last year was the first time I met Charlie Becker, the Camp’s Director, it brought me back to the fond memories I had of the field trip there oh-so-many years ago.  Charlie was at Runde’s again earlier this week talking to us about everything that had happened to the camp over the last year.  We had quite a bit of catching up to do. I’m sure most people have heard of the Salvation Army, but are you aware of everything they do in and for the Dubuque community?  All families go through tough times, whether it be economic, emotional, physical… How these times effect individual family members varies, but when it comes to economic challenges, it can leave some children not being able to experience the holidays to the fullest.  Think of the surroundings you grew up in.  Were there so many toys every holiday that you couldn’t possibly play with them all within a day’s time? Or maybe your family could barely afford to get you one toy… Wouldn’t you want every child to experience the holidays the way they were meant to be celebrated -with a great meal, gifts, and a sense of happiness?
