Appearance Protection

Fabric Protection: Everyone loves the look and feel of a new vehicle and its spotless interior.  To keep your vehicle looking new, you can purchase our paint & fabric protection plan.  With this appearance protection plan, a sealant is applied to the exterior of your car or truck, helping to protect it against harmful elements like acid rain, tree sap, or bird droppings. 

In a similar fashion, when upholstery protection is applied to the leather or cloth interior surfaces of your vehicle, it helps reduce the signs of aging and protects against food spills, chewing gum, pet stains, or even melted crayons.  You also may be covered against punctures, small tears (up to 2 inches), and fading which will help to preserve your car’s resale value when you eventually go to trade it in or sell it. 

Paint Protection:  No matter how old it is, a vehicle that still looks like new is always worth more than one with faded paint and stained seats.  The use of waterborne enamels and computer controlled robots have forever changed the way new vehicles are painted at the factory. 

Most manufacturers including Chevrolet and Ford use either a polyurethane or polyethylene clear coat to protect the underlying factory paint, both of which are applied robotically using microscopic droplets of water.  This process allows the total paint thickness on a new vehicle (including primer) to be only 4-7 mils thick or about the thickness of a sheet of paper.  To reduce curing time, virtually every manufacturer also uses thermoset enamels that cure once the paint has been heated to its set point.  Heating the paint to 250–400 degrees causes a chemical reaction that cures the paint in a matter of minutes.

The paint we use in the Runde body shop is chemically different than the paint used at the factory.   Plus, it’s applied using a completely different process making it possible to sometimes tell if a vehicle has been repainted.   So it’s critical you do everything possible to protect your vehicle’s original factory finish.   

Without some sort of protection, the microscopically thin clear coat is the only protection for the color layer.  Unfortunately it’s constantly under attack by environmental contaminants like industrial pollutants, tree sap, kamikaze-like insects, and bird droppings … all of which are specifically excluded by the manufacturer’s warranty.   Even your leather seats can be ruined due to dye transfer from someone’s blue jeans.  

The two things that impact the value of a vehicle more than any other are the exterior and interior appearance.  Protecting your vehicle while it’s still new is a lot cheaper than replacing the seat or a paint job.  It can also make it worth more. 

Overall, an exterior/interior appearance protection plan can go a long way in terms of protecting your vehicle against life’s messy mishaps.
