Silly Laws … Silly, Silly Laws

We’ve all heard about silly laws or goofy city ordinances before such as:
In Ottumwa, IA a man may not wink at any woman he does not know.
In Illinois, you may be arrested for vagrancy if you do not have at least one dollar bill on your person.
In Wisconsin, butter substitutes are not allowed to be served in state prisons.
Well recently Eric Schmitt in our sales department sold a truck to a customer who resides in Texas.
Today, the customer emailed us letting us know about a silly Texas law that forbids decorative frames to be placed on the rear license plate of a vehicle.
He wrote: “Due to another one of the silly laws down here I could not keep the rear license plate bracket on the Chevy but I did like it enough to put it on my offroad truck! Have a safe and happy holidays!”
Obviously all laws are put into place for a reason, but as time goes by we sometimes lose sight of what the reasons were — or the reasons, themselves, become irrelevant with the passage of time.
So the next time you’re in Marshalltown, IA and your horse tries to eat a fire hydrant, keep your eyes open for flashing red lights. And if you’re ever on vacation up north and feel the urge to cross over the Minnesota border into Wisconsin with a duck on your head … don’t do it or they’ll be comin’ for you!
Silly Laws!
