This year’s Dubuque Symphony Orchestra Ultimate Hits Rock Concert in Dubuque will be DOUBLE the fun!
For the first time, the symphony has added a second performance by popular demand! The concerts will be 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 20 and 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017.
“For the last few years, this concert has sold out almost as soon as the tickets become available,” said Mark Wahlert (the uncle of Daniel Wahlert), executive director of the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra. “Since one of the main goals for this symphony concert is to introduce new people to just how incredible our musicians are, we wanted to try and accommodate the overwhelming requests for more tickets.”
Each year, the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra joins forces with local rock bands like Menace, Johnny Trash, Joie Wails, Half Fast, The Lonely Goats, and more to present a symphonic rock experience.
Runde Auto Group is proud to be the exclusive sponsor of the fifth annual event!
“I think people enjoy this concert because it allows them to see and hear some of their favorite music being performed by some of the area’s best musicians, and they are also able to see the symphony play music from a variety of genres at a venue that is outside of what we normally do,” Wahlert said.
The concerts feature chart-topping hits from the 1970s to the present, and have included covers of legendary songs from groups like Aerosmith, Van Halen, The Rolling Stones, and Led Zeppelin.
According to Music Director and Conductor of the DSO, William Intriligator, songs this year include “Clocks” by Coldplay, “Pride” by U2, “Feelin’ Alright” by Joe Cocker, “Enter Sandman” by Metallica, “Message in a Bottle” by Police, “Carry on My Wayward Son,” “Lady Marmalade” and more.
“Some of the greatest rock hits originally had orchestral components and many of the pieces we perform are therefore being heard in ways that could only be showcased with a live symphony,” Wahlert said. “Lastly, I think this concert is extra-enjoyable because the audience age range is so diverse – there’s something for everyone whether you’re in your twenties or your eighties or anywhere in between.”
There will be 25 players from the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra involved, plus the band and singers (new participants are marked with a *), listed below:
