The 2024 Silverado HD and Sierra HD will Arrive Soon with Fresh Faces

The Chevy Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD will undergo a model makeover for the 2024 model year. The exterior styling will be revamped, and this will also bring about some exciting new upgrades as well as some new features. One feature that has the national media buzzing is the new GCW Alert.

GCW is short for a truck’s Gross Combined Weight and basically a driver never wants the GCW to exceed the gross combined weight rating which varies and is specific to each truck depending on how it’s equipped. But how many truck owners actually pay attention to this. They chop down a tree and then throw as much wood as possible in the back of the truck and then load up the trailer they’re towing with as much wood as possible and then head for home without knowing they may potentially be causing permanent damage to their pick-up.

Of course, there’s always a limit whether the driver realizes it or not and there comes a point where overloading your truck can and will do permanent damage to the vehicle. That’s where the all-new GCW Alert will come in. It basically sports an integrated internal “scale system.” There’s no actual scale per se. Rather, the truck’s onboard computer calculates torque and acceleration to determine whether the truck has be overloaded. It sends drivers a notification or “alert” if and when they’ve loaded their truck up beyond the Gross Combined Weight Rating – of course the alert won’t come until the driver actually takes to the road.

This may be more applicable to business owned trucks that are used for commercial purposes, but I’m sure there will also be occasional situations where the average Joe will benefit from this new system.

Other changes coming to the 2024 Silverado HD and Sierra HD include a revamped cockpit with a new 13.4″ infotainment screen as well as a new driver information center, refreshed exterior styling (includes a new front fascia, a new grille, and new headlights) and a few powertrain enhancements. The most notable powertrain change will be the Allison 10-speed transmission will come standard on all GM Heavy Duty’s regardless of whether the customer opts for the gas or diesel engine. Previously, the Allison transmission was only available on HD’s equipped with the Duramax diesel engine.

The 2024 Silverado HD and Sierra HD will start being produced in the first quarter of 2023 which means they’ll likely start showing up on dealer lots during late spring or early summer of 2023.
