Buick Showcases New Style Cues

In your temporary state of tryptophan-induced comatose bliss this past Thanksgiving, you may have accidentally scrumbled (that’s a cross between scrolled and stumbled) across GM’s newest design sketch on your Instagram feed.

In the Mood for a New Buick

The new design features a long, sleek Buick sedan with oversized aluminum wheels with extremely low profile tires.  The front end definitely has a supercar look and feel and let’s just say the car gives off good vibes to fans of the Buick brand.  This was somewhat curious coming from a manufacturer that doesn’t currently offer a sedan or coupe in its model lineup.

The Buick brand has been historically known for its line of cars from the LeSabre, Invicta & Electra trio from back in the day (1959) to the Regal, Park Avenue and of course the Grand National. Buick is currently rolling with the times by adapting to the changing needs of its customers. Simply put, Buick and Big Band music were running on parallel lines during the early 2000’s where both of their audiences were aging and unfortunately dwindling in terms of sheer numbers because they were (to put it bluntly) dying off. The main difference between the Buick and Big Band was that Buick was able to adapt and evolve. GM was able to steer toward the production of SUV’s that were higher up and easier for traditional Buick customers to get in and out of. Big Band music on the other hand wasn’t able able to adapt and win over newer/younger fans in large numbers. The swing revival of the mid-1990’s didn’t last and it’s not like J-Lo or Taylor Swift are currently doing remakes or covers of Vaughan Monroe tunes.

Will They or Won’t They?

I guess what I’m trying to say is it’s been awhile since we’ve seen a sleek and stylish car from Buick and it was a nice change of pace for a brand that currently produces a trio of SUV’s, namely the Enclave, Envision and Encore GX.  Will Buick get back to producing cars again and bring something like this concept to the production lines and ultimately to dealer lots and customer garages?  Probably not.  Just sayin’.  The Buick division at General Motors is likely just playing around with design cues trying to find new inspiration that they’ll eventually bring to their upcoming new EV models.

Buick Wildcat

Teasin’ the Cat

It’s likely similar to the Wildcat coupe concept Buick teased earlier this year where they stated it was just an exercise in design and that they had no plans on producing the vehicle.  Using Buick’s words, the Wildcat is a “concept conceived to establish the brand’s future design language”.

While Buick hasn’t released a production EV yet, they plan to bring their first one to the market for 2024 and they have plans for their entire lineup to be comprised of EV’s by 2030.

It would be nice to see a car in the mix of Buick’s upcoming EV offerings, but we’ll have to wait just like everyone else to see if Buick pulls the trigger on that.  Anyway, until then let us know your thoughts on our thoughts.  We’ll leave you with a few more shots of the Wildcat coupe from June of ’22 as well as a video demo of the concept car.
