Undercoating and Rust-Proofing

This optional kind of protection is totally about saving money in the long run by making your vehicle last longer.  Midwesterners know all too well about something that normally lasts for about 4-5 months out of the year … it’s a little thing we like to call “snow”.  And snow is often accompanied by extreme conditions and road salt.  Of course some people enjoy the winter months, but we assure you that your vehicle does not.  And if you’re not careful and undercoat your vehicle properly, you could sent it to a premature trip to Rustville, USA and this is a one-way trip from which there is no way back.  Undercoating and rust-proofing are great strategies that will help improve the longevity of your vehicle’s body and underbody.

Undercoating provides a protective, petroleum-based coating that is sprayed on to the undercarriage of your car or truck forming a barrier between the bottom of your vehicle and the environmental elements like salt and water that can be harmful to your vehicle over time.  This, in turn, ultimately protects your car against rust which helps to preserve the overall value of your vehicle thus saving you money in the long run.

Cost for Undercoating your vehicle ranges from about $399 to $500.

Rustproofing adds to the undercoating protection package by applying long-lasting chemical protection to your fenders, quarter panels, doors, fuel door, trunk and the underside of the hood.  This is done by spraying inside holes in panels to penetrate hard-to-reach cracks and crevices providing maximum protection from the inside out.  By extending the life expectancy of your vehicle’s outer panels, it can help increase the vehicle’s resale value.  Just ask yourself, if there are two similar used vehicles sitting side by side on a dealer’s lot and one has been rustproofed while the other has not, which one would a car shopper be willing to pay more for?  If you answered with “the one that has been rustproofed”, then you are correct.  Rustproofing not only adds a peace of mind, it also adds value to your vehicle over the long haul.

Once your vehicle has been rustproofed, it is recommended that you set up an appointment each year to have the rustproofing chemicals reapplied.  It is an annual process, it is a working product, because it’s not just a coating.  It does creep and it will penetrate into the nooks and crannies inside your vehicle’s panels.  However, it does eventually wear over time and that’s why it’s recommended that you set up a time for a reapplication once a year.

Cost for Rust-Proofing your vehicle ranges from about $525 to $725.

Is Undercoating Or Rust-Proofing Right For You?

SUV with undercoating and rust-proofing protection driving in the snowThe costs for both undercoating and rust-proofing depend directly on the size of the vehicle you’re buying … for instance rust-proofing a sub-compact car is going to cost far less than a full size truck

Many customers view purchasing these products as making a monetary investment in their vehicle’s future.  Whether it’s the right investment for you depends on how long you plan to keep your vehicle.  If you’re someone who tends to keep a vehicle “until the wheels fall off”, then perhaps you should give some serious thought to purchasing an undercoating or rust-proofing package.  If you’re interested in purchasing one of these packages, please let one of our Finance Managers know and they’ll be able to provide you with exact pricing.  Or you can reach our Finance Department at the following numbers:
