blue Silverado HD front endAnyone who’s looking at getting a new Chevy Silverado HD near Dubuque should definitely check out Runde Chevrolet’s new truck inventory.  The current body style of the Chevy Silverado HD is a quite a departure from the recent past, while at the same time perhaps it’s a partial revisit of the distant past.  The truck looks very little like the previous generation of Silverado HD’s, but there have been quite a few Chevy fans out there who actually see a resemblance to the squared-off body style C/K full-size truck (2nd generation) from the early 1980’s.

The front end is very “beefy” and aggressive-looking and where it says C-H-E-V-R-O-L-E-T across the center of the grill definitely harkens back to Chevy’s 1st generation (circa 1965-66) full size truck and that new detail looks super classy and really makes the truck stand out in a crowd.

Where Styling Meets Functionality

Also on the exterior is a new integrated side step where the cab and bed meet.  It’s totally functional for anyone who needs to quickly retrieve something from the bed of the truck and it’s nicely integrated into the natural body lines of the truck.  In addition to these new side steps, there are still the helpful side steps on the corners of the rear bumper that were on the previous generation of Silverado HD and were initially introduced by Chevrolet on the first generation Avalanche.

And on the back of the truck is a lightweight aluminum tailgate with a power release button that’s standard on every trim level.  For anyone who remembers the terribly heavy Chevy tailgates of yesteryear, this new featherweight tailgate is a much-welcomed departure from the past … thank you Chevrolet engineers!

Two Available Power Plants

white Chevy 2500 and black Chevy 3500 duallyUnder the hood is a standard 6.6 liter cast iron block gasoline V-8 that puts out 401 horsepower and 464 foot-pounds of torque.  That’s definitely a lot of muscle for a gas-powered engine.  The gas V-8 also utilizes a forged steel crankshaft and direct injection and is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.  Added to this is a 2-speed transfer case and a standard electronic automatic rear-locking differential.  Of course Chevrolet also offers the 6.6 liter Duramax engine on the Chevy Silverado HD near Dubuque.  The optional Duramax diesel engine is paired up with an Allison transmission and that’s a definite winning combination.

Now for the Conundrum

The big question as always is this:  Is it worth the extra thousands of dollars to get the Duramax.  Honestly, for what you get out of the gas engine, it’s probably only worth it if you’re towing a large trailer or a flatbed trailer with construction equipment on a regular basis, then you’ll probably want the diesel for the extra power and for the added fuel efficiency.  But you also should keep in mind if you shell out the extra cash for the diesel, you’ll likely make a lot of that back in terms of resale value when you eventually sell or trade-in your truck and get a new one.  So the choice is yours and as we always say in the car business … people don’t buy what they need, they buy what they want.

Even the base Silverado HD is equipped with a standard trailering package that includes the hitch with a 2.5 inch receiver and a 2 inch insert, 7-pin wiring connector, and external engine & transmission oil coolers so it’s nice to know that you can tow a good size boat shortly after buying the truck.  But please keep in mind that Chevrolet still recommends abiding by the 500-mile break in period on a new Chevy Silverado HD near Dubuque before towing anything.

Technology Geared to the Everyday Driver

Center touch screen of a new Chevy Silverado HD near DubuqueOn the inside of the truck, it doesn’t matter whether you go with the base model WT or the top of the line High Country, all trim levels are going to be equipped with state-of-the-art technology.  At the center of the cockpit is an easy-to-use touchscreen infotainment center.  Chevrolet has really simplified the design of this touchscreen which makes it readily accessible and intuitive for even non-tech savvy drivers.  The simplified design makes it easy for you to find what you need, when you need it.  Of course it has standard Android Auto and Apple Carplay.  If you’re not sure what that means, don’t worry because you’re not alone.  It just means the vehicle has the ability to sync with your Apple or Android phone and that will allow you to make hands free calls while you’re driving by using simply voice controls.  You just tell the system which of your contacts you’d like to call and you’ll be able to hear whoever you’re calling via the radio speakers in the truck.  This will keep your eyes off your phone and on the road where they belong.  You can also send and receive texts using this same voice-activated system.
