General Motors is “all in” on their electric vehicles initiative, and they want everyone to join them.
That was the message from GM during its appearance at the all-virtual Consumer Electronics Show (CES), where the company teased its many new upcoming EV models. GM has committed to 30 new global electric vehicles by 2025.
GM has also tweaked its logo for a more electrified look, its first substantial logo change since 1964, and launched a new GM.com website. It’s all part of its “Everybody In” campaign as GM pursues a future with zero crashes, zero emissions, and zero congestion.
“There are moments in history when everything changes. Inflection points. We believe such a point is upon us for the mass adoption of electric vehicles,” said Deborah Wahl, GM global chief marketing officer, in a press release. “Unlike ever before, we have the solutions, capability, technology and scale to put everyone in an EV. Our new brand identity and campaign are designed to reflect this.”
They teased many of their upcoming EV offerings during CES, including a mysterious pickup truck and SUV, both hidden in the shadows.
Here’s what they did tell us about:
BrightDrop EV600
BrightDrop is focused on making businesses run better using electric technology. The EV600 electric van concept runs on the same powertrain as the GMC Hummer EV and promises up to 250 miles of range.
With a DC fast charger, it’s able to gain 170 miles of range in one hour. It has motion sensors in the cargo area and a 13.4-inch infotainment system.
FedEx will be receiving the first 500 EV600 vans. They will go on sale in 2022.
BrightDrop EP1
GM also introduced an electric pallet that can move on its own. It can be used for short distances, like moving cargo around a warehouse or between a delivery truck to your front door.
The pallet reaches up to 3 mph and can handle up to 200 pounds and 23 cubic feet of cargo. It has adjustable shelves and locking doors. According to a test by FedEx, the company found its workers could handle 25% more packages in a day when using the EP1 pallet.
Bolt EUV
The 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV will be the first Chevy-branded vehicle to come equipped with GM’s Super Cruise driver-assistance system. Super Cruise allows for hands-free driving on pre-mapped highways, and it monitors your attention with a camera to ensure your eyes stay on the road.
Also worth noting is that GM showed off an electric air taxi, the Cadillac eVTOL. Here’s a video of what it would look like.
They also showed off an autonomous vehicle – the Cadillac Halo self-driving pod. It has a living room set-up inside and even biometric sensors so the car can adjust temperature, lighting, and cabin scent to create a comfortable ride for its occupants.
Between 2020 and 2025, GM will invest more than $27 billion in EV and AV product spending, exceeding its gas and diesel investment.
So stay tuned, there is plenty more GM EV announcements to come!
