Remember the Hummer? Introduced back in 1992, it was a gas-guzzling machine. Its successor, the first-ever GMC Hummer EV pickup is set to be quite the opposite.
Running only on electricity, the GMC Hummer EV SUT will have 1,000 horsepower, 11,50 lb-ft of torque, go 0-60 mph in 3 seconds, and offer exceptional off-road ability.
It will be revealed on May 20 with a livestream on gmc.com, which will also introduce the vehicle’s engine specifications and price. Pre-orders will be opened at that time.
GM will start production of the Hummer in September 2021 at its Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant, which is currently being re-tooled to produce electric vehicles. The vehicle will be available at Runde Auto Group in Platteville in the fall of 2021.
Another exciting aspect of this “quiet revolution,” is the upcoming GMC Hummer EV SUV, which will be revealed at a later date than the pickup.
According to Car and Driver, the battery packs for both the SUV and pickup may be able to store as much as 200.0-kWh of electricity, about double what’s currently available from Tesla’s largest battery packs. That’s because GM stacks battery modules in two layers, creating a pack about 18 inches tall. GM estimates the battery could provide a range of up to 400 miles on a single charge!
The SUV and SUT will both be very large vehicles and both have removable roof panels over the front and rear passengers.
We can’t wait to see the new Hummer roll on to our lot at Runde Chevrolet Buick GMC in Platteville and take it for a spin!
