The car that makes people giddy is definitely the 2014 Corvette C7 Stingray. The newest Corvette is taking the world by storm! Sporting an aggressive look, the 2014 Corvette C7 Stingray promises to be better than any Corvette you’ve experienced and has thus deserved the famed “Stingray” title. GM Managed to take off 99 lbs out of the body structure and making it 60% stiffer, it corners at over 1g and is supposed to be faster than the previous years Grand Sport! Chevrolet clearly one-upped themselves in practically every department with the new Corvette iteration – Appearance, Performance, Quality and Technology.
The Powertrain packs the small block 6.2L LT1 V8 engine boasting an estimated 450 horsepower, 450 lb.-ft. of torque and is said to be able to go from 0-60 in under 4 seconds. An available dry-sump oil system delivers through high g-force cornering. A 7-speed manual transmission with Active Rev Matching which as soon as the shifter goes towards another gear, it senses that and automatically adjusts the amount of torque needed for a smooth transition between shifts.
The Powertrain also comes with great features such as Direct injection, Variable Valve Timing, & Active Fuel Economy. Here’s a little low down on what these features offer:
Direct injection:
Direct Injection delivers fuel directly into the combustion chamber to obtain maximum thermal and combustion efficiency. The 2014 Corvette delivers an outstanding 11.5:1 compression ratio that increases torque, power and fuel efficiency.
Variable Valve Timing:
This optimizes the camshaft timing resulting in improved high-rpm horsepower and low-end torque. A sensor detects engine-operating conditions and adjusts the timing of intake and exhaust valves. This ultimately leads to a boost to power or torque when needed.
Active Fuel Economy:
This feature deactivates four cylinders when cruising at consistent speeds and offers all eight cylinders as soon as you press on the accelerator. This option is selectable to be on or off to the drivers discretion.
Another interesting feature that the 2014 Corvette C7 Stingray will offer is Driver Mode Selector:
Driver Mode Selector offers five selectable driver modes that will electronically calibrate up to 12 performance variables for a true user defined ride. These modes adjust things such as the feel of the steering, the appearance of the cluster display, the characteristics of available Magnetic Selective Ride Control and (with the right package) torque reduction and brake intervention for more confident driving on the road.
The Driver Mode changes the configuration of the Corvette’s 8-inch LCD instrument cluster, displaying information relevant to the chosen driving style.
