6 Reasons To Consider Buying a New Chevy Silverado EV

Silverado EVElectric vehicles are becoming more and more popular, and for good reason.   They’re environmentally friendly, efficient, and stylish. If you’re going to be in the market for a newer vehicle sometime over the course of the next 3 or 4 years, you should consider buying a vehicle that runs solely off electricity.  GM just debuted their pre-production Chevy Silverado EV and it’s causing a lot of buzz at the Chicago Auto Show. Here are 6 reasons why you might want to give some consideration toward eventually buying one.

1: The Chevy Silverado EV is good for the environment.  No matter where you stand in your view of electric vehicles and where they fit in with the future of everyday transportation, you can’t argue with zero emissions.  What’s good for the planet is good for the planet.  Vehicles that don’t emit pollutants are considered environmentally friendly and any friend of the environment is a friend of mine.

2: It can be good for the economy.  More and more consumers purchasing electric vehicles can result in economic benefits for each state by lowering fuel costs and steering away from imported oil by using locally generated electricity. These fuel saving amounts can be reclassified as additional revenue that could theoretically be spent within local economies by boosting local businesses and ultimately creating additional jobs.

3: It’s stylish and modern.  It’s obvious GM was shooting for a futuristic look with their styling of their new EV truck.  Granted, it’s not as revolutionary as the original sketches from GM made it out to be, but you have to consider that the sketches were probably featuring wheels that were 33-34” and no manufacturer will ever mass produce a vehicle with wheels that large.Silverado sketches

Still the actual pre-production model looks very fresh.  And you have to admit that the 24” aerodynamic wheels are pretty impressive … possibly the largest ever on a mass-produced (or soon-to-be-mass-produced) vehicle.  If I’m wrong about that, please let me know in the comments section.  And the interior demonstrates that Chevrolet has cranked it up a notch from what we’ve seen in the past … namely in the screen displays across the front dash.  The main screen is a 17-inch behemoth that’s seamlessly integrated into the styling and the graphics are of exceptional quality.

4: It’s perfect for families.  With the exception of vacations that involve travelling on long stretches of highway and kids screaming that the family dog just threw up a cheeseburger in the back seat (seriously, who feeds a cheeseburger to a dog in a car on a ten hour trip?), families normally don’t travel in excess of 300 miles a day in their vehicle(s).  So an electric vehicle that can get through a normal day on a single charge would definitely work.  It’s estimated the Chevy Silverado EV will be able to travel 400 miles on a single charge (that’s approximately 6-7 hours of driving at highway speeds).

5: It’s affordable.  Chevy is saying the starting price of the Silverado EV will be $39,900.  To give you an idea of where a nicely equipped one will land, the gas version of the Silverado 1500 crew cab starts at $35,600 so the EV version isn’t really going to cost much more than its gas powered step-sibling. In addition to having an affordable price tag, this EV pick-up will also save you mucho dinero in terms of fuel costs.  They say that paying 10 cents per kilowatt-hour is pretty much equal to paying $1.00/gallon for gas.  I’m quite sure that no one under the age of 20 was even born yet, the last time U.S. gas prices were at $1.00/gallon.  (Note: Actual average price per kWh in Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa ranges from 10.97 to 12.53 cents per kWh).

6:  Excellent performance.  The new Silverado EV will generate about 664 horsepower.  That’s a lot of horses (granted you can’t claim those horses are “under the hood” because there’s just a hollow “frunk” under the hood of this bad boy … sorry, no horses).  And the fact that it will have 4-wheel-steering capabilities means that drivers will be able to maneuver in tight spaces with ease.

If you’re thinking about purchasing a new truck sometime in the near or perhaps not-so-near future, the Chevrolet Silverado EV should be one of your considerations. It’s good for the environment, great for the economy, and affordable for families both during and after the sale.

Electric vehicles are the future of transportation (whether we like it or not), and Chevrolet is trying to lead the way with the new Silverado EV.  So if you’re looking for an environmentally friendly, fun-to-drive truck, the Silverado EV should hit dealer lots in the summer of 2023 and might end up being the perfect choice.
