What are the most popular vehicles in the Dubuque area? What paint color is purchased the most?

We pulled reports for new vehicle sales at Runde Auto Group – in East Dubuque, IL; Platteville, WI; and Manchester, IA – to get an idea of what drivers prefer.

According to the 67th annual Global Automotive Color Popularity Report by Axalta, a coatings company headquartered in Pennsylvania, white is the most popular vehicle color in the world with 38%.  Black and grey follow it with 19% and 13%, respectively.

Runde Auto Group’s 2019 new vehicle sales mostly matched those results, with white and black topping the list. Axalta noted that white has been the top automotive color worldwide since 2011.

runde most popular vehicle color pie chartOf last year’s new vehicle sales at Runde Auto Group, 25% were white, 18% were black, 18% were charcoal, 16% were red, 11% were silver/grey, and 9% were blue. Brown, beige/tan, and burgundy each accounted for 1% of Runde’s new vehicle paint colors.

Axalta’s study noted that blue rose in popularity in North America this year, accounting for 10% of all vehicles.

In Russia, 12% of vehicles are warm shades of beige and brown, which makes those colors more popular there than in any other region.

Nationally, vehicle manufacturers are cutting back on production or discontinuing sedans as customers flock to SUVs and pickup trucks. This is a trend we are seeing in the tri-state area as well.

Of Runde Auto Group’s year-to-date new vehicle sales, 57% were pickup trucks. 35% were SUVs, and just 4% most popular types of vehicle pie chartwere sedans. Cab Chassis, Hatchback, Passenger Van, and Cargo Van each accounted for 1%.

The majority of the new vehicles sold in 2019 were 4WD (59%), which makes sense since the majority of them are trucks. All-wheel drive vehicles accounted for 29%, and front-wheel drive represented 9%. Rear-wheel drive was just 3%. Here’s a look at the pros and cons of each drivetrain.
