Chevrolet Reveals New Work Trucks! Check out the 2019 Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD, & 6500HD

The Chevrolet 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD made their debut at the NTEA The Work Truck Show in Indianapolis today!

These heavy duty Silverados are perfect for a wide variety of businesses, such as lawn and garden, automotive, concrete work, electrical work, water/sewer/utility lines, highway and street construction, and special trade contractors.

“Chevy’s designers and engineers were obsessed with making this Silverado the most customer-focused medium duty truck of any major competitor,” said Ed Peper, U.S. Vice President of GM Fleet, in a press release. “By customer-focused, I mean work-ready trucks that are easy to upfit, easy to drive, easy to service, and easy to own.”

Developers took input from fleet managers, truck drivers, upfitters, technicians, and Chevy dealers.

The vehicles will be available in 2WD and 4WD and will be powered by a standard 6.6-liter Duramax diesel engine with 350 horsepower and 700 lb ft of torque and Allison transmissions with a Power Take Off option.

There will be seven industry-standard cab-to-axle options and 10 wheelbases to allow upfits tailored to specific needs.

The trucks have optional factory-installed Air Ride Suspension. An engine-driven accessory air compressor inflates air bags in the rear suspension. This allows the driver to increase or release pressure, which adjusts the load/unload height.

“It’s not just numbers on a spec sheet that make us different and better,” said John Schwegman, director of Commercial Product and Medium Duty at GM Fleet, in a press release. “These new Chevrolet Work Trucks are designed to solve the most common upfit and ownership challenges fleets have with many of today’s medium duty trucks.”

They have a factory-painted frame with no welds or brackets to cut down on the cost and complexity of upfits. A “clamshell” hood and 50-degree wheel cut allows for easy “walk-up” access to the under-hood components. The wheel cut also allows for better maneuverability. The DEF tank is located on the passenger side of the truck, opposite of the fuel fill, to lessen refueling errors.

Production of the new Chevrolet Work Trucks is set to begin in late 2018.
