This is the second installment of a weekly #FilmFestivalFriday series focusing on the sixth annual Julien Dubuque Film Festival, which is April 20-23 in downtown Dubuque. Runde Auto Group is proud to have been a driving force behind JDIFF… from the start!
DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Julien Dubuque International Film Festival will kick off on Thursday, April 20 with a little help from the Canadian Consulate.
“Celebrate Canada” will be the theme of Opening Night of the sixth annual festival. The feature film “The Land of Rock and Gold” will be shown at 7:30 p.m. at Five Flags Theater.
The 1 hour, 31-minute drama follows a young Cree mother and son in a remote woodland community. They find themselves on the run in the wake of the mysterious disappearance of her boyfriend.
Director Daniel Redenbach and lead actress Charity Bradfield will be on hand for a Q&A session following the movie.
“We had such a unique opportunity to partner with the Canadian Consulate and bring this film and its creators to Dubuque,” said Susan Gorrell, executive director of the film festival. “This will be a fun way to kick off this year’s festival.”
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the screening is free.
The Opening Night event follows an entire day of FREE films, sponsored by Runde Auto Group!
Following the showing, Ohio-based band The Lovebenders will play an after party at 9:30 p.m. at the Riverboat Lounge in Hotel Julien.
The Julien Dubuque Film Festival, set for April 20-23 in downtown Dubuque, will feature more than 100 documentaries, features, and shorts. They were selected out of more than 685 submissions from over 40 countries.
“We are so excited to showcase the quality of the films this year and to welcome filmmakers from around the world to Dubuque,” Gorrell said. “Mark your calendars – you don’t want to miss this!”
