2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV named 2017 North American Car of the Year

The 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV is picking up awards left and right!

Not only is the all-electric vehicle the 2017 Motor Trend Car of the Year and Green Car Journal’s 2017 Green Car of the Year, it is now the 2017 North American Car of the Year!

“The Bolt EV fulfills Chevrolet’s promise to offer an affordable, long-range electric,” said Mark Reuss, executive vice president of GM Global Product Development, in a press release. “It is a game-changer that is not only a great electric vehicle; it’s a great vehicle — period.”

The Bolt gets an EPA-estimated 238 miles per charge, five times the amount needed for the average daily commute of 40 miles!

The available 240-volt charging unit offers more power than a 120-volt outlet. This higher-voltage system can provide up to an average of 25 miles of range per 1 hour of charge. To replenish the battery from empty to full, it takes about 9.5 hours.
The standard Location-Based Charging feature customizes your charging settings so that the Bolt EV will know when you’re home and will activate according to your preset times. If you’re somewhere else, and the vehicle is plugged in, Bolt EV will know to charge immediately.

Here are a few techniques that allow you to control when and how you want to channel even more electricity to the battery:

 Allows you to slow down without using the brake pedal while transferring energy back to the battery, and then converts that energy into electricity. It’s not magic. It’s just a simple pull of the Regen on Demand paddle on your steering wheel. And doing just that, helps optimize range. Of course, you must use your brake pedal if you need to stop immediately. This allows you to speed up and slow down by using the accelerator pedal. It works something like this: Press your foot down to increase speed, just like you normally would. To slow down, just lift your foot off the accelerator pedal. So, instead of losing energy when slowing down, One Pedal Driving helps you generate more energy to the battery. And it’s just one more reason to drive Bolt EV.

The Bolt EV doesn’t skimp on safety. It has 10 air bags, a high-strength steel frame, available OnStar, available front pedestrian braking, available forward collision alert, available side blind zone alert, and available rear cross traffic alert.

Also available is Surround Vision, which uses cameras to create a virtual bird’s-eye view of the vehicle, allowing you to see in front of and on each side of the vehicle. Another available feature, Rear Camera Mirror, projects a wide-angle view of the area behind the vehicle in the inside rearview mirror.

Its expected MSRP is below $37,500 — before an available federal tax credit of up to $7,500. The Bolt will be available across the U.S. in mid-2017.

This recognition marks the fourth time in four years that Chevrolet has received the North American Car of the Year or Truck of the Year award. The Corvette Stingray and Silverado won in 2014 and the Colorado won in 2015.
