Runde Salesperson Tim Meyer Revs Toward Retirement

Salesperson Tim Meyer of Dubuque will soon be celebrating a retirement and a birthday all at the same time.  He will retire from Runde Chevrolet in East Dubuque on Nov. 4 – two days before his 62nd birthday.

“I’ll have 29 years and 9 months in the car business and most of that has included selling new Chevy vehicles in Dubuque and the surrounding areas,” Tim said. “I come from an automobile parts family over in Dubuque, so I’ve been fed and clothed by the automobile industry almost all my life.”

Tim is excited to travel to visit family members, like his brother in Ohio, sister in northern Illinois and his brother in the Chicago area. He also is excited to spend more time with his family members here, including his 2 children, Megan, 34, and Jesse, 32, as well as his grandchildren and friends in Arizona.
Tim started in the car business in February of 1985.

“After all these years, I have over 4,000 sales and probably 2,500 customers, many of them repeat customers I’ve had nice relationships over the years,” he said. “And (I’ll miss) the satisfaction of always delivering the vehicle right. I will miss that. General Motors has been very good to me. The Runde family has been absolutely superb. John Riley hired me and I have a long relationship with John in the car business.”

When considering his most memorable moments with Chevrolet, he said going to Corvette Driving School was among the top.
“That was one of the best days in the car business was going to driving school when they came out with the Corvette that year, the 2005,” he said. “That was a very, very interesting day for me in the car business. I got to drive two Porsches, two Corvettes and a BMW Z4 with a Nascar driver at the Milwaukee race track. We went to school for six hours and then they let us drive these cars. It was really fun.”

He also laughed as he discussed the “golf cart incident” from the Runde Golf Outing in 2013. His golf cart’s parking brake failed and sent the vehicle careening into a creek.
“After that happened, I think it was a big laugh for everybody and everybody was happy that no one was injured. But unfortunately I broke my most favorite Big Bertha club that my brother gave me,” he said.

In the 3 1/2 years that Tim worked at Runde’s, he sold more than 400 vehicles. He still remembers when he interviewed for the job. “I talked to John Riley first and then I came back over for the second interview and Tim and Greg Runde came in to the office and spoke to me for about a half hour or 45 minutes. I felt they were really down to earth people. They were definitely car people like myself. The memory of those two, Tim and Greg, in my interview and how comfortable I felt at that time, that was a big deal for me.”

Tim Meyer of Dubuque is also proud of his customer satisfaction rating.  “Right now I’m at the 3.99 level, just one hundredth of a point away from a perfect 4.0,” he said. “I take a lot of pride in my work and our products here and with the help of others I’ve been able to maintain that.”

As Tim looks forward to his retirement, he said he will miss his customers the most.  “I’d like to thank all my wonderful customers who have made my career a very successful one,” he said.
