Derrick Klauer of Bellevue Iowa – Runde PreDriven’s Newest Salesman!

Derrick Klauer from Bellevue Iowa is a geek and a dog loving, educated, river dweller. I didn’t know all that, you probably didn’t either. That’s why we did this interview for the Runde Blog. He’s the newest member of the Runde Sales Staff and he’s been doing very well in his first couple of days on the job and the reason for that reflects through his positive attitude and caring outlook.  The Tri-State area is ready for Derrick Klauer to send everyone home with their dream vehicle. What made you choose Runde’s?
Runde has a great reputation around this area as being a really popular and nice dealership. I wanted to get experience in selling used cars so I thought it’d be a great opportunity for me.

Why do you want to be a car salesman?
I like the challenge.  It’ll be exciting to sell vehicles to people from the area … especially customers from Bellevue. I like working and meeting new people and I have always enjoyed sales.

Are you from around the area?
I live in Bellevue Iowa now and I also lived in Iowa City for school for the past 6 years.

Being from Bellevue Iowa, you’ve probably heard of Runde’s?
Absolutely, in fact I bought several vehicles from here before I started working here.

How do you like it at Runde’s so far?
I’ve had a great time so far. I’ve adjusted well and am getting along with everyone.

What is the most shocking or unexpected thing about the job?
I’d say I’m surprised and pleased by how casual and laid back everyone that works here is. A lot of dealerships in bigger cities are really uptight, have ties on and are all about the money. Here you can be on the same level as the customer and aren’t intimidating them. They just see that you are a casual person who just wants to find a vehicle for them instead of pressuring them to buy something.  Just good customer service and great used vehicle values.

Have any pets?
I have a 2-and-a-half year old Husky named Gage. I got him while I was going to college when he was 8 weeks old. He’s really well behaved and trained so he’s not too bad to handle.

Always liked animals?
Yeah, I’ve been working with dogs for the past 3 years as a general manager of a dog daycare and boarding facility when I went to school in Iowa City. We took care of 75-100 dogs per day. I got to see a lot of different breeds. We were always busy but it was a great experience.

After working there are there any breeds that you don’t really like?
Boarder Collies and Beagles.  Beagles are very loud and stubborn. Boarder Collies are too high energy and never seem to stop.

What did you study at Iowa City?
I got my degree in Marketing.

Have a big family?
I have 10 siblings in my immediate family, ya, it’s big.  Most of them are currently living in Bellevue Iowa.

What are your past times and hobbies?
Working with dogs is definitely one of my biggest hobbies. I’m a big river guy. I like to hunt and fish. I like to travel; I’ve been to around 30 different states.

What was your favorite state?
Colorado. I loved the mountains.

What’s your least favorite state?
Nebraska. It’s just flat and not a whole lot going on.

Favorite hangout spot in the Tri-State area?
Lot One and Mason Dixon on the weekends. Otherwise I like to hang out on the river.

What’s your favorite vehicle?
I grew up with vintage Corvette’s. My dad was a Corvette owner. So I would say that I like old school Corvette’s.

Have you seen the 2014 mustang we just got in stock?
Yeah! It’s really cool looking but my heart is with the mid 70s Corvette’s.

What’s one invention you can’t live without?
Netflix. I don’t know what I’d do without Netflix.

Is there anything surprising about you people might not know about?
I’m a big nerd. I like video games and fantasy movies. I’m a geek at heart.

Favorite game?
Probably Boarderlands.

If you were president for a day, what would you do?
I would go golfing at Augusta. I know I’d never get a chance to do that otherwise. Maybe take a little trip to New Zealand Air Force One.

What sports team(s) do you like?
I’m a huge Dallas Cowboy’s fan and Boston Celtics Fan I’m also a Hawkeyes fan.

What’s your prediction for the score of the Hawks for the Ohio State Game?
Probably around 56 to nothing. We are going to get completely dominated.

…I thought you said you are a Hawkeye fan?
I’m just being realistic, I don’t have high expectations, they are way better than us.

Do you have a favorite movie?
Lord of the Rings is probably my favorite movie trilogy. Blow is probably my favorite non-trilogy movie.

Favorite band?
Incubus.

Anything you want your customers to know?
I’m just an all-around nice guy!

… I don’t know, what do you want me to tell them? I guess I’m just out to help people find a vehicle they will be happy with. If they just give me a shot  I think they would leave a here very satisfied.
