Darlene and Frank Potter came from Zwingle Iowa to pick up their Jeep Liberty recently. While here they sat down with me and we had a relaxing conversation to get to know how their experience was. I don’t know if I’m just out of the loop or something, but I had never heard of a spaghetti western!
What led you here to Runde’s in the first place?
Oh…We’ve been dealing with Runde’s for years.
How do you like Dave Smith, your salesman?
He’s a terrific salesman. You come in when you don’t even intend to buy and you walk out buying something.
He must be quite the smooth talker, huh? What would you give him on a scale of 1-10?
10, he’s just an excellent salesman.
How about Runde’s, what would you give us on a 1-10 scale?
10. I bought the pickup truck, new, from the Chevy Store and they treated me good then too.
Are you guys from the area?
We’re from Zwingle Iowa – about 15 miles South of Dubuque.
What do you guys like to do around the area?
We like to travel now. We bought the Jeep because we needed a vehicle that we could tow behind our motor home, that’s the main reason why we bought the Jeep.
Where do you plan on going next?
Hard to say, we pack a lot and go all over the place. We’ve been to Florida, Texas, Oregon, Arizona, California… we always plan trips and we like going often.
What was your favorite destination so far?
We like Florida. There’s a lot of things to do. Other states have lots of things to see but in Florida we can be more active.
Do you have a favorite movie?
Darlene: Oh I don’t know…
Frank: Yes she does… Dirty Dancing.
Darlene: Oh yea, Dirty Dancing.
The one with Patrick Swayz…
Darlene: *interrupts me* Ohh yes (big smile on her face).
Frank: I like REAL westerns… not the Clint Eastwood “spaghetti westerns”
Spaghetti Westerns?
He made a lot of movies where he was the only American and all the rest of the actors are Italian, the music and everything is Italian, much different than a true western.”
What kind of music do you like?
We like Dean Martin quite a bit.
Do you have kids?
Oh yes.
Grandkids?
Frank chimes in quick: Tons of ’em
We have four girls, 13 grand-kids and, what is it? 11 great grand-kids.
You guys seem like some fun grandparents.
We live for our grandchildren and we live close by if they ever need us.
If there was one thing you couldn’t live without, what would it be and why?
There’s really nothing that’s that important, is there? We have lots of things we like to do but nothing we couldn’t live without.
How about if you were to win the lottery, what would you do with the money?
Give it away.
Give it away?
Sure. We have lots of places to give it, we don’t need it personally so we’d just give it away.
Would you recommend Runde’s to friends and family?
Yes. We already have, actually.
How did you two meet? Do you remember the first date?
Her brother was responsible. He rode to work with me… “I have a sister that needs a date”… no he never said that. I don’t know if we really had a first date we just kind of became a couple.
None of those online dating sites, huh?
Ha, not hardly.
What’s your favorite place to eat around near Zwingle Iowa?
Village Inn… or McDonalds.
Do you have any hobbies?
Nothing much, the only time we went gambling is when we went to Nevada. He sat down on one machine and played it then everything started ringing and people started coming out… Frank: That’s the first time I’ve ever played a slot machine in my life, when the lights went off I thought “what am I doing wrong” these people were coming out of the office and I was so confused but they were giving me 100 dollar bills.
You both sound pretty lucky to me — in more ways than one. Well, that’s all the questions I have for you guys, thank you very much for sharing a bit about yourself with us. Hope you enjoy the Jeep and have a safe trip back to Zwingle Iowa!
