Pat Timmerman – one of the longest lasting and friendliest faces at Runde Chevrolet. This week we got a chance to pull him away for a little bit to get to know him better.
What do you do here at Runde’s?
I’m the nut in the squirrel farm! I am the service manager aka “fixed operations” for the four stores. I make sure that customers are taken care of and always have staff in place to accommodate to the customer for their convenience.
How long have you been doing this gig?
Oh I’m not even sure… lets see… since ’96? yea, since 96 – so about 13 years.
One of the originals, huh? You’ve been here so long, have you always been from the area?
Yeah, I’ve pretty much always been from Dubuque. I lived in St. Louis for about a year but got kind of homesick and the economy at the time was not good there so I moved back. I was going to go to the military but my wife gave me an ultimatum so I stayed in the area.
Well I’m glad you stayed so I got a chance to meet you!
Yeah… I would have been retired by now if I would have gone through with it!
Ha ha. What is your best experience at Runde’s to date?
They treated me very well through my fight with cancer – I had Hodgkinson’s Disease. I also really like going to car races with the Runde’s.
The cancer was treated, then?
I would be dead now if it weren’t.
I’m glad that you are still with us. I am sure your wife is too, any more in the Timmerman household?
Yeah I have 2 kids.
What do they do?
They are in school – and they better continue to be! One is in high school and the other is in secondary school.
How long have you and your wife been together?
20 years come April 15th.
Any pets?
We had 2 Britney Spaniels but one passed away.
Sorry to hear. Do you have a favorite hang-out spot in the Tri-States?
Eh, no not really. Any ol’ tavern will do just fine.
What kind of hobbies or past times do you have?
Mostly I like to play with cars and collect rare guns. I also like hunting, cooking, motorcycles, airplanes, and studying history.
Does Pat Timmerman have any cool bikes?
Oh yeah. I have a Yamaha Zob FJR.
Do you have a favorite dish that you make?
I dunno, all of it? If i had to pick one – probably Black Forest Cake.
Yep, I know I love a slice of the old Schwarzwald Kuchen when my stomach gets to growlin’. What’s your most memorable experience in a vehicle?
Going to Skip Driver driving school. It’s where they train people how to drive high performance vehicles. I love fast cars, the faster the better.
I bet you have some speeding tickets, huh?
Oh yeah ha ha.
Have a favorite movie?
I watch tons of movies. I like older movies, off the top of my head one of my favorites is Top Gun. And not because of Tom Cruise.
Homemade or restaurant food?
I just like food, all of it.
Baked or grilled?
Probably grilled
Dogs or Cats?
Dogs, big time! (Pat requested I put an explanation point after his answer for this)
Sweet or sour?
Sweet
Glass half full or half empty?
Half full – But I like wine.
Favorite music?
Rock!
Does Pat Timmerman have a favorite artist?
Probably Emerson Lake and Palmer
What would you do if you won the lottery?
I would give some to each of the family members, then, I would disappear!
Thanks Pat!
