As we move forward into the future, things change. You get a Mohawk .. your dad unveils that he is superman … or you come home to the pleasant surprise of your dog having an all-you-can-eat buffet of anything and everything in the house. Changes can be big or small, and lately, in the automotive industry there have been several changes. Beyond the scope of any economic woes, one big development in the automotive industry in the last couple of years has been the concept and implementation of electronic and hybrid vehicles.
A quick lesson about Hybrid and Electric vehicles:
Electric cars – 100% emission free – secure their power from batteries, the sun or hydrogen fuel cells. Being able to pull power from other sources; they are definitely more efficient on gas.
Hybrid cars – Combine the cleaner energy of the electric motor with the long-range power of the gasoline engine. Not as efficient on gas as electric cars, but they are more powerful and still offer outstanding gas mileage.
Several manufacturers have jumped to produce quality electric and hybrid vehicles – Chevy has the Volt, Ford has the Fusion, etc. The development on these types of vehicles does not look like it’s going to stop. Ford CEO, Alan Mulally, recently commented, “In 10 years, 12 years, you are going to see a major portion of our portfolio move to electric vehicles.” Mulally also commented that internal combustion efficiency will improve dramatically over the next decade, and more hybrids will join the lineup including a plug-in hybrid that is planned to debut in 2012.
It seems to make sense to me. Save some money by avoiding the pump and save the earth at the same time, sounds great! and let’s face it … no one wants to pay too much at the gas pumps.
