There will be five models of the Fusion, making it customizable to any consumer’s needs.A 2.5L 4-cylinder is available in the base model. This engine is capable of 240 horsepower (250 hp with E85). Ford is also working on a fuel shut-off system for deceleration. The Ford Fusion Sport runs on a 3.5L Duratec V-6 (also found in the new Ford Flex) that also adds 240 horsepower.

The all-new Fusion Hybrid is just around the corner. It can run on all-electric up to 47 mph. It is also going to average about 40 mpg, which is 5 mpg more than the Toyota Camry Hybrid. They also added a Variable Voltage Controller (VVC) that is going to enhance electric motor output by 130% and generator output by 160%. Up to 94% of braking energy is recaptured with the new gas engine, which allows for even more fuel savings. It can be customized by the driver, and will also provide summaries from past trips for aid in finding the optimal settings for better gas mileage.

The Fusion GT is for the speed demons out there. It is powered by a 3.5L EcoBoost direct-injection, turbocharged V-6. About 340 horsepower can be expected from this engine. It will also be set up as an all-wheel drive sedan.

All-wheel drive will be available in the 3.0L and 3.5L 6-cylinder engines.

The four cylinder Fusions have the option of a six-speed manual transmission. The six-speed automatic is available for all of the six-cylinders. This new transmission will optimize fuel efficiency by 10% in the four-cylinders, and by 6% in the six-cylinders. The automatic will also feature a manual mode.
